The Durand Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their ninth straight loss. They were dealt a 65-32 defeat at the hands of Aquin Catholic. While losing is never fun, Durand can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 529th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 121st).
Durand lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Reagan McCallips, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aurora Hilton, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Aquin Catholic found their leader in underclassman Paityn London, who almost dropped a triple-double on 24 points, ten rebounds, and nine steals. London is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Hanna Broge, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
Durand has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Aquin Catholic, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Durand will take on the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Aquin Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
