Basketball Recap: Chayla Mcdaniel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Myers Park over South Mecklenburg

It was a good run, but Myers Park unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 46-36 to the South Mecklenburg Sabres. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 206th, while the Sabres are ranked 38th).

Myers Park's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chayla McDaniel, who posted 12 points and six steals. Those 12 points gave McDaniel a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amani Barner, who put up ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Leading South Mecklenburg to victory were Chloe Grant and KB Brown. Grant dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards, while Brown earned 13 points and five steals. Brown is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played.

Myers Park's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 7-11. As for South Mecklenburg, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Myers Park will welcome Ballantyne Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Myers Park is facing Ballantyne Ridge at the right time seeing as Ballantyne Ridge is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for South Mecklenburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ardrey Kell at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
