The Kellis Cougars will face off against the North Canyon Rattlers at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Kellis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Last Wednesday, Kellis earned a 9-5 win over Washington. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Daniel Medina Jr made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Medina Jr was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Those runs marked the first that he scored this season.

In other batting news, Julian Giddens and Jose Ortiz Felix did most of the damage at the plate: Giddens scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Ortiz Felix scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave Giddens a new career-high. Nathaniel Madrid also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, North Canyon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Desert Edge.
Jacob Kirby made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. North Canyon is 2-1 when Kirby posts three or more hits, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mason Hougland, who scored a run while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
Even though they lost, North Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Kellis' victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for North Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Kellis has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Kellis couldn't quite get it done against North Canyon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can Kellis avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
