The New Prairie Cougars will square off against the La Porte Slicers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (New Prairie has three straight victories, La Porte has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, New Prairie made easy work of Portage and carried off an 11-1 win.

Ava Geyer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kiera Strakowksi was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Addi Luther was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
New Prairie hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portage struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, La Porte came up short against South Central on Thursday, falling 18-1.
La Porte saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shayla Sorg, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
La Porte's defeat dropped their record down to 12-16. As for New Prairie, their victory bumped their record up to 21-6.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. New Prairie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like La Porte struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went New Prairie's way against La Porte when the teams last played back in April, as New Prairie made off with a 15-2 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Slicers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
