Softball Recap: East Chambers Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Orangefield, East Chambers was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They never let the Hardin Hornets get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Buccaneers have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Hailey Hjelle was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marley Morgan, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Mikeala Quave was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

East Chambers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

East Chambers' win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 17-10-1. As for Hardin, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. East Chambers is set to challenge their familiar foe Anahuac at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Buccaneers 3.6, the Panthers 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Hardin will face off against rival Kountze at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
