Given Eastern Wayne's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Southern Wayne is ranked 454th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southern Wayne's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nevaeh Hines-Bass, who scored 15 points, and Nygeria Thompson who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds. Hines-Bass scored a full 48.4% of Southern Wayne's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kyren Strong, who scored 4 points along with 4 steals.
Eastern Wayne's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. As for Southern Wayne, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Eastern Wayne will head out on the road to face off against Southern Wayne at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Southern Wayne, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Goldsboro at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
