The Broadwater Academy Vikings gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They managed a 58-54 victory over Chincoteague. For Broadwater Academy, this counts as revenge for the 71-66 loss Chincoteague walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Broadwater Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grayson Ross, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rufus Abbott, who scored 15 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Several Ponies players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jake Harper, who scored 23 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Jordan Harper was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with 5 assists and 5 steals.
Broadwater Academy's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Chincoteague, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Broadwater Academy will face off against Gateway Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Chincoteague, they will face off against Middlesex at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
