Saranac is 1-9 against Beekmantown since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Spartans will welcome the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Saranac took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Chazy 12-2. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.
Brady Blair was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Seth Petrashune was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Zack Lucia, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Saranac always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chazy only posted an OBP of .250.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Beekmantown and Saranac, and Beekmantown kept the tradition alive. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Spartans.
Like Saranac, Beekmantown also got a great game from a two-way player: Steven Bronson. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Bronson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Beekmantown's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Lagree, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Hunter Porter was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
Saranac's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Beekmantown, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Saranac has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Beekmantown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
