The Powhatan Indians will venture away from home to face off against the Cosby Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cosby took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Powhatan, who comes in off a win.
Powhatan will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against L.C. Bird on Tuesday. The Indians put the hurt on the Skyhawks with a sharp 19-3 victory. With that win, the Indians brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Natalie Danburg made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Mazie Harmon was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2025. Anna Shoemaker also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Powhatan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .861. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Cosby's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Clover Hill by a score of 5-4.
Haylee Nicely was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aislin Bossler, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.
Powhatan's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-4. As for Cosby, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4-1.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Powhatan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Cosby struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Powhatan got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against Cosby by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
