I Section I recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to North, who took down 144th ranked North, 47-37. Carlos Martinez threw for 112 yards and ran for 80 yards in the win.
Hayden moved up to 137 from 166 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in I Section I. The Falcons climbed the ranks as a result of a 47-37 win over the Mustangs.
St. Mary's's dynamic duo of Gabe Losada and Lukas Treffers proved tough for Central to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Losada threw for 307 yards and five touchdowns and Treffers had 204 yards receiving. Jalen Young helped St. Mary's' passing attack out by catching six balls for 91 yards.
Jermaine Shannon was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 218 yards as Alhambra beat the Bobcats. Teammate Melvin Harris added to the ground attack by rushing for 57 yards.
St. Mary's' Losada and Treffers have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Losada has thrown for 899 yards this season, while Treffers, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 42 catches for 509 yards. Jordan Mitchell from Cibola leads the league in rushing with 760 yards.
A big matchup in I Section I this week will be when Valley Vista takes on the Lions. The Monsoon are in second place, while Alhambra is in fifth place.
There should be lots of points scored when Westview and Todd Williamson's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Knights comes in having scored 266 this season, while the Knights have scored 164. Westview scored 56 points last week as it bested Browne.
Hayden was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to third in the league. Clevand Dansby's team beat North 47-37 earlier in the week.
