South Lafourche has gone a perfect 10-0 against A.J. Ellender recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Tarpons will square off against the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. South Lafourche will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
On Tuesday, South Lafourche made easy work of Morgan City and carried off a 14-4 victory. Considering the Tarpons have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Julian Morales was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Ledet, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two triples, and three runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jacob Pierce, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
South Lafourche always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, A.J. Ellender fell victim to Lutcher and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to the Bulldogs. The loss continues a trend for the Patriots in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.
South Lafourche's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for A.J. Ellender, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-16.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Lafourche has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like A.J. Ellender struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
South Lafourche was able to grind out a solid win over A.J. Ellender in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 8-3. Do the Tarpons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
