If the Mead Mavericks were riding high off their 70-41 takedown of the Lakewood Tigers on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mead fell just short of Lewis-Palmer by a score of 60-57. Mead was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lewis-Palmer apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Mead's lost on Wednesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dominic McLawrence, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds. The contest was McLawrence's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Angelo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Lewis-Palmer was led to victory by Damarion Jelks and Cohen Edmondson. Jelks scored 15 points, while Edmondson scored 23 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Jelks continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Noah Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Mead's defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Lewis-Palmer, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Mead will be playing in front of their home fans against Vista PEAK Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Vista PEAK Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday. As for Lewis-Palmer, they will head out on the road to face off against Pueblo South at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
