The Starkville Yellowjackets will venture away from home to face off against the Saltillo Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Starkville will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Germantown, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. Starkville never let Germantown get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Yellowjackets considering their one-run performance the game before.

The result came thanks to Jonas Coleman's shutout, as he gave up just six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Will Moody, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since March 1st. Torian Knox was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Saltillo had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Friday. They blew past the Conquistadors 14-2. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
BEN MONAGHAN tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Saltillo let JACK ADAMS and BAYLOR ROBERTS run wild. ADAMS went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while ROBERTS went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that ADAMS launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of COOPER BURLESON, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Saltillo lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Saltillo's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Starkville, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-8 record.
Starkville took their win against Saltillo when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2. Will Starkville repeat their success, or does Saltillo has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
