Baseball Recap: Hastings Find Success

Hastings posted their closest victory since April 15th on Saturday. They skirted past the Ralston Rams 12-10. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Hastings got a great performance from Eli Schneider as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Schneider has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chance Vertin was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Hastings is 5-1 when Vertin posts two or more runs, but 8-10 otherwise. Isaiah Shaw was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Hastings kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.

Hastings' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-11. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Ralston, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-6.

Hastings and Ralston are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Tigers will challenge Skutt Catholic at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The SkyHawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Hastings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ralston, they will face off against Gross Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight.
