BRANDON, Miss. - A 28-point lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter didn't slow down
Northwest Rankin (Brandon, Miss.) as it put 14 more points on the scoreboard to secure its victory over Greenville-Weston (Greenville, Miss.) 42-0.
The Cougars were up 28-0 at the half after taking the lead on a rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
Northwest Rankin's most effective player was
Jekory Trigg. The senior wide receiver ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
NR had given up an average of 17.9 points prior to the contest. The zero points that the Hornets ended with were well below their average of 18.5 coming into the game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 34-24 win for the Brandon school.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Cougars, which was coming off a 17-15 defeat at the hands of Clinton in its previous game.
Northwest Rankin (4-5) goes up against Madison Central in a 6A Region 2 game matchup next week, while Greenville-Weston (2-7) locks horns with Clinton also in a 6A Region 2 game.
