They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 81-57 walloping at the hands of Woodland Christian. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Encina Prep in their matchups with Woodland Christian: they've now lost five in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Encina Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sergio De La Cruz. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with three steals. De La Cruz hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Wroten, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Woodland Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ethan Johns, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Johns scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Romello Bruhn, who scored 22 points along with six assists and three steals.
Encina Prep's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6. As for Woodland Christian, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-6.
Encina Prep will face off against Forest Lake Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Averaging 70.11 points so far this season, Encina Prep's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Forest Lake Christian better be ready for a challenge. As for Woodland Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sacramento Waldorf at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodland Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 386 points over their last five contests.
