Carla Arreola was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kelci Walker was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Ruth Wiltbank was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Round Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northland Prep Academy only posted an OBP of .391.
Meanwhile, St. Johns made easy work of Mogollon on Tuesday and carried off a 19-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Redskins in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.
Kaylee Pulsipher was incredible, going 3-for-4 with seven stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Scarbrough, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Round Valley is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for St. Johns, their win bumped their record up to 19-5.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Round Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .420. However, it's not like St. Johns struggles in that department as they've averaged .407. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Round Valley couldn't quite get it done against St. Johns in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 11-7. Will the Elks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
