Even though the Carey Blue Devils have not done well against the Buckeye Central Bucks recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Carey managed a 44-40 victory over Buckeye Central. Given Carey's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while Buckeye Central is ranked 474th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carey's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kynlee Phillips, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Riley Yost, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Carey has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Buckeye Central, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carey will challenge Elmwood at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Carey focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. Buckeye Central is on the road again on Monday and plays Colonel Crawford at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Buckeye Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
