Lake Region is 8-2 against Fryeburg since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Lakers are taking a road trip to face off against the Raiders at 4:00 p.m. Lake Region is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Lake Region will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Wells on Wednesday. The Lakers walked away with a 12-8 win over the Warriors.
Ava Cole spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ella Gibbons, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Laura Dutton also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Fryeburg earned an 8-5 victory over Oxford Hills on May 5th. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.
Fryeburg also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Presli Knapp gave up just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits.
At the plate, Reagan Wilson was a standout: she got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Carlin Galligan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Lake Region has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Fryeburg, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Fryeburg's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lake Region has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Fryeburg, though, as they've been averaging 12.7 hits. Given Lake Region's sizable advantage in that area, the Raiders will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lake Region skirted past Fryeburg 6-5 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Lakers repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
