Basketball Recap: Buckeye Skates Past North Canyon with Ease

Buckeye won the last time they faced North Canyon and things went their way on Thursday too. The Buckeye Hawks blew past the North Canyon Rattlers 56-22. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Buckeye got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tia Chapman out in front who dropped a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 steals. Chapman has become a key player for Buckeye: the team is 8-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 9-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was La'Zaria Williams, who dropped a double-double with ten boards and 11 steals.

Buckeye smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 35 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, North Canyon still got an impressive performance from Jonni Brown, who posted nine points and six rebounds. What's more, Brown also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in November of 2023.

Buckeye is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points over those games. North Canyon is on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-17.

Buckeye has already played their next game, a 67-35 victory against Mountain View on the 20th. North Canyon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
