Swain County (Bryson City, N.C.) trailed
Monroe (N.C.) by 21 points at one time, but managed to come all the way back and secure a 28-21 victory on Saturday.
The lead that the Maroon Devils took on a defensive touchdown with under a minute left in the second quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
The loss snapped the Redhawks' 10-game winning streak.
Swain County's standout player in the win was Maennle. He caught one touchdown. He has now scored 13 touchdowns on the season.
Quashaun Chambers played well for Monroe. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to nine on the year.
The defeat comes as a step back for Monroe, which notched a 61-31 victory over Mount Airy in its previous outing.
Swain County (15-0) goes up against Monroe in a playoff game matchup next week, while Monroe (11-4) locks horns with Swain County also in a playoff game.
