After a string of six wins, the Independent Panthers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 50-49 to Life Prep. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Independent has scored all season.
Independent lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sir Ryan Dennis, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Jaylen Phillips-Grey was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Independent's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-1. As for Life Prep, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independent will face off against Cheney at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheney will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Independent is ranked 14th). Life Prep will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Veritas Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th.
