New Washington and South Central are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: New Washington has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while South Central will arrive with three straight victories.
Charlestown hit New Washington with a nine-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs lost 16-1 to the Pirates.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Central). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Scottsburg a 21-0 shutout on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Gracie Haag made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2025. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, South Central got a massive performance out of Isla Schweitzer, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Delaney Pennington, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
South Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
New Washington's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for South Central, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
