Baseball Recap: Lakeview Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

After losing to Kalamazoo Central the last time they met, Lakeview decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Spartans walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Maroon Giants on Thursday.

Gavin Deal made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam McCullough, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Isaiah Jackson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Lakeview is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Kalamazoo Central, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-17.

Coming up, Lakeview will square off against Coldwater at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Kalamazoo Central, they will host Niles at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
