North Newton dropped their record down to 6-12 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Washington Township Senators by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Spartans couldn't push the score so high this time.

Nick Bartrom was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

As for Washington Township, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5-1 record this season. The victory made it back-to-back wins for they.

On Washington Township's side, Destin Billings spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Billings also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Senators are undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Washington Township's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Connor Parks, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Aiden Armstrong also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Newton will host North White at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.18 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Washington Township, they will be playing at home against Whiting at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
