The Avon Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Hoover Vikings at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Avon will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
If Avon beats Hoover with 13 runs on Saturday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Eagles blew past Riverside 13-5 on Thursday.

Sam Griffiths was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Chura, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Avon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.4.
Hoover hadn't beaten Green on the road since May 16, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Vikings walked away with a 5-2 win over the Bulldogs.
Jack Andes made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in 14 consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other pitching news, Evan Fuller tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Andes wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was JR Cook, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Avon's record is now 10-12. As for Hoover, their record now sits at 18-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Avon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hoover struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Avon couldn't quite finish off Hoover when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
