On Friday, Red River and Pineville were almost perfectly matched up, but Red River suffered a 41-40 defeat.
Despite their loss, Red River saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Malique Smith, who threw for 278 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 117 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, was perhaps the best of all. Warren Bowman was another key player, gaining 204 total yards.
Meanwhile, Mansfield never let their opponents score on Friday. They claimed a resounding 39-0 victory over North Caddo. That 39 point margin sets a new team best for the Wolverines this season.
Red River better focus on containing Terrell Pegues and Jaterrious Howard as the pair were huge in Mansfield's win. Pegues rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, while Howard rushed for 141 yards on only 11 carries.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mansfield proved: they limited North Caddo to a paltry 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Kendrick Wyatt for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mansfield didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.4.
Mansfield's defense didn't let Montae Miles, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Derrick Mitchell, Tramajah Carroll, and Levi Jackson, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Red River's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Mansfield, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Red River beat Mansfield 20-10 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
