Crystal City is on a five-game streak of home wins, while the Pirates are on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Crystal City Javelinas will take on the Lytle Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Crystal City's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches.
Even though Cotulla scored an imposing 70 points on Friday, Crystal City still came out on top. Crystal City enjoyed a cozy 87-70 win over the Cowboys. Given Crystal City's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 686th, while the Cowboys are ranked 1555th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Crystal City got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Eli Mata out in front who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Mata is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Christopher Mena was another key contributor, scoring 30 points.
Meanwhile, Lytle strolled past the Owls with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 67-50.
Crystal City is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 19-12 record this season. As for Lytle, their victory bumped their record up to 23-6.
Crystal City was able to grind out a solid win over the Pirates in their previous meeting back in January, winning 72-62. Will Crystal City repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
