The Mooreville Troopers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to Choctaw County. While losing is never fun, Mooreville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while Choctaw County is ranked 88th).
Choctaw County was led to victory by Garrick Alston and Caleb Cunningham. Alston scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Cunningham scored 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Cunningham is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Treyvionne Woodard was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four steals.
Mooreville's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Choctaw County, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-3.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Aberdeen the next time they take the court. Choctaw County will head out to face Aberdeen at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Mooreville will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
