Despite the loss, Amherst County saw an underclassman step up: Emmena Awanda scored 11 points along with three steals. Awanda hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Wall, who scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Jefferson Forest's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6. As for Amherst County, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.
Jefferson Forest was able to grind out a solid victory over Amherst County when the teams last played back in January, winning 61-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jefferson Forest since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
