Basketball Game Preview: Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves vs. Paxton Tigers

Maywood/Hayes Center is 10-0 against Paxton since December of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves will venture away from home to square off against the Paxton Tigers at 2:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

Last Thursday, Maywood/Hayes Center blew past Brady, posting a 62-17 win. The Wolves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 42 points or more this season.

Maywood/Hayes Center found their leader in sophomore Caylie Softley, who went 10 of 16 on her way to 25 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Softley is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karissa Stengel, who posted seven points along with 14 boards and seven assists.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Paxton faced off against Maxwell on Friday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Paxton made off with a 42-41 victory over Maxwell.

Paxton's win came from a few key players Maywood/Hayes Center will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Emmalee Nicholson, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaleigh Hansen, who posted ten points and four steals.

Paxton's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Maywood/Hayes Center beat Paxton 52-45 in their previous meeting back in January. Will Maywood/Hayes Center repeat their success, or does Paxton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
