Millbrook hasn't had much luck against Wake Forest recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wildcats will host the Cougars at 3:30 p.m. Millbrook is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Millbrook made easy work of Knightdale and carried off a 16-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won eight in a row.
Nicole Drew was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Alayna Pitman was another key player, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Millbrook kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. They are 9-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Wake Forest nor Rolesville made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Cougars came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rams, sneaking past 3-2. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by just one run.
Jil Livengood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Wake Forest saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abbey Lauer, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
The win made it two in a row for Wake Forest and bumps their season record up to 14-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Millbrook, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Millbrook's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Wake Forest, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Millbrook continue to outrun the ball?
Millbrook suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Wake Forest in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
