Sydney Johnson spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 20 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kayla Hayes made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalis Rivera, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
As for Boston English, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.
On Boston English's side, Yanairis Guerrero Melo made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 22 batters over eight innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those 22 strikeouts gave Guerrero Melo a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Thales, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Shelsea Jimenez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Coming up, O'Bryant will square off against Brookline at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.1 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Boston English, they will head out on the road to challenge Madison Park RVT/McKinley RVT at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
