The Fuquay - Varina Bengals lost against the Garner Trojans back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Fuquay - Varina took a 61-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Garner. While losing is never fun, Fuquay - Varina can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 430th, while Garner is ranked 80th).
Fuquay - Varina's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nick Clark, who scored 16 points. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. Dylan Finch was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Fuquay - Varina and nudges their season record down to 3-9. As for Garner, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 7-5.
Fuquay - Varina will take on Clayton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Clayton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday. As for Garner, they will head out on the road to face off against Cleveland at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Cleveland knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Garner likes a good challenge.
