The McCutcheon Mavericks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Lafayette Central Catholic by a score of 44-42. While losing is never fun, McCutcheon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while Lafayette Central Catholic is ranked 96th).
McCutcheon's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brody Raeke, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Owen Souligne who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Baker, who scored nine points.
Lafayette Central Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bobby Metzger led the charge by scoring 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Metzger has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mikey Stapleton, who scored 11 points.
McCutcheon's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
McCutcheon won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Richmond at 7:00 p.m. on January 6th. Richmond will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. Lafayette Central Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Rensselaer Central at 8:00 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Rensselaer Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 last Wednesday.
