Malvern is a perfect 3-0 against Fountain Lake since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Leopards will square off against the Cobras at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Malvern put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand ESTEM a 24-0 shutout. Considering the Leopards have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kendall Watson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Watson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Malvern let Alexis Jenkins and Elena Bradford run wild. Jenkins went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Bradford went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave Bradford a new career-high. Reese Dedman also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fountain Lake, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Jessieville with a sharp 17-5 victory on Wednesday. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Cobras this season.
Meagan Tillery and Ellie Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Tillery scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Johnson scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Burks, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Fountain Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Malvern has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for Fountain Lake, they pushed their record up to 5-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
Malvern took their win against Fountain Lake in their previous meeting on April 1st by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Leopards since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
