The Beech Buccaneers will head out on the road to face off against the Southwind Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Beech sitting on four straight wins and Southwind on 11.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Beech had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-8 win over Overton at home. Considering Beech has won six contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Chelton Swafford and Kaden Powell were among the main playmakers for Beech as the former rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries and the latter rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Powell was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Beech also got help from Rubin Stanberry who showed off his sure hands for 83 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Southwind got themselves on the board against Springfield on Friday, but Springfield never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Yellow Jackets 62-0 at home. Considering Southwind has won ten games by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Kelvin Perkins, who threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Perkins has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamariyen Farmer, who gained 64 total yards and two touchdowns.
Beech is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Southwind, they pushed their record up to 11-0 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
