The Jefferson Academy Jaguars's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Colorado Academy Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on December 19th. Jefferson Academy's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Colorado Academy's offense will have their work cut out for Colorado Academy.
Jefferson Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 70-24 win over Liberty Common on the road. That looming 70-24 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Jefferson Academy yet this season.
Elsa Nygren was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with eight assists and eight steals. That's the first time this season that she posted eight or more assists. Emma Parker was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Colorado Academy had to settle for a 44-41 loss against Northfield on Tuesday.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Naomi Wolff, who scored 11 points along with six steals and five assists. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Alex May, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and six steals.
Even though they lost, Colorado Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Jefferson Academy pushed their record up to 4-1 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.33 points. As for Colorado Academy, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Jefferson Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Colorado Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 37 rebounds per game. Given Jefferson Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, Colorado Academy will need to find a way to close that gap.
Jefferson Academy came up short against Colorado Academy when the teams last played back in January, falling 44-32. Can Jefferson Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
