Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Fairland walked away with it. They breezed past the North Adams Green Devils to the tune of 77-44 on Saturday. The Dragons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 games by 21 points or more this season.
Fairland got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bailey Russell out in front who posted 17 points along with eight boards and six assists. The dominant performance gave Russell a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Addyson Cornell, who went 5-for-8 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds.
Fairland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in four consecutive contests.
Fairland has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That somehow still isn't as good as their 19-5 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 36.3 points. North Adams' loss dropped their record down to 18-7.
Looking ahead, Fairland will take on Waynesville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Waynesville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Fairland likes a good challenge. North Adams does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
