The Alexander Central Cougars''s found some homefield redemption this week after a tough overtime loss to the Hibriten Panthers on Friday. Alexander Central blew past Freedom 35-7 at home. Alexander Central pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Freedom had little chance of recovering from.
Alexander Central found their leader in underclassman Sawyer Chapman-Mays, who rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Chapman-Mays hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Braydon Rowe, who rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Several Patriots players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaden Davis, who threw for 155 yards and a touchdown.
Alexander Central's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 3-7 Freedom and 3-7 South Caldwell (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 40% over those games). As for Freedom, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-7.
Alexander Central will head out on the road to face off against Butler at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Butler will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak. Freedom does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
