Charlotte Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Varsity Opponent 78-8 at home. The team's offensive explosion also rewarded Charlotte Christian with their most commanding win of the season.
Charlotte Christian's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Dominique Kay, who scored 18 points along with four steals, and Kayla Lee, who scored 17 points along with seven steals and six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kay has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Fair, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Ravenscroft waltzed into their game on Friday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They strolled past Durham Academy with points to spare, taking the game 47-29. Given Ravenscroft's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Durham Academy is ranked 295th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ravenscroft's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ellie Cronin led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Cronin has scored at least a third of Ravenscroft's points. Zoe Adams was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Charlotte Christian's record now sits at 6-14. As for Ravenscroft, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Charlotte Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Ravenscroft struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
