Softball Recap: Scappoose Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

There's no place like home for Scappoose, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They put the hurt on the Tillamook Cheesemakers with a sharp 19-4 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Indians have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Elly Casey was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Saige Casey was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Brooklyn Schmidt was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Scappoose always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tillamook only posted an OBP of .333.

Scappoose's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Tillamook, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scappoose will venture away from home to face off against Astoria at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tillamook, they will head out to square off against Nestucca at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cheesemakers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
