The Albuquerque Bulldogs are taking a road trip to face off against the West Mesa Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Albuquerque has three straight wins, West Mesa has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Albuquerque made easy work of Rio Grande and carried off a 17-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Raquel Waldrop made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Waldrop was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Emma Gonzalez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Luna Diaz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Albuquerque always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rio Grande only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, West Mesa didn't have quite enough to beat Atrisco Heritage Academy on Tuesday and fell 7-6.
Trinity 'Toots' Bazan was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Mya Baca was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Albuquerque's record is now 10-6. As for West Mesa, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.
West Mesa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Albuquerque has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for West Mesa, though, as they've been averaging 12.3 hits. Given Albuquerque's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Albuquerque took their win against West Mesa in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-2 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
