Grimsley gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. Everything went their way against the Mount Tabor Spartans as the Grimsley Whirlies made off with a 34-12 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Whirlies, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Mitchell Summers was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 212 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Kaden Catoe also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Grimsley's defense and their three sacks. Leading the way was Bryce Davis and his two. His also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up two sacks and making seven total tackles.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Grimsley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 269 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mount Tabor only rushed for 116.
Loss or not, Mount Tabor got some senior leadership from Lane Albright and Snook Peterkin. Albright threw for 144 yards and a touchdown, while Peterkin. picked up 122 receiving yards and a touchdown. Peterkin got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of71 yards.
Grimsley will square off against Rolesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mount Tabor, they will head out to challenge North Forsyth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
