With a playoff win on the line, Coconino rose to the challenge on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Sahuarita Mustangs 3-2. The win was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on 23 straight.
Kaitlyn Tso was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 30 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Destiny Villas was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Coconino hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sahuarita struck out ten times.
Coconino's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 28-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sahuarita, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 25-6.
As of now, neither Coconino nor the Mustangs have any future games scheduled.
