Germantown is 9-1 against Madison Central since December of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Germantown Mavericks will head out on the road to challenge the Madison Central Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Germantown will be strutting in after a win while Madison Central will be coming in after a defeat.
In what's become a running theme this season, Germantown gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They blew past Murrah 65-26 on the road. Given Germantown's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Murrah is ranked 188th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Germantown relied on the efforts of Raegan Jordan, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds, and Alana Rouser, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Rouser is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Williams, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Madison Central's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 46-41 to Clinton, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Despite the defeat, Madison Central saw an underclassman step up: Karley Robinson scored 17 points along with two steals. Robinson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Lauren Sutton was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Germantown has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. As for Madison Central, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Germantown have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Madison Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Germantown didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Madison Central in their previous matchup on January 9th, but they still walked away with a 56-50 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Robinson, who scored 15 points along with six assists and two steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Germantown still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
