The Florence Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 12th straight loss. They fell 35-27 to La Junta. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Florence in their matchups with La Junta: they've now lost five in a row.
Florence's loss came despite strong showings from Kassidee West and Kaydence Martinez. West almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds, while Martinez scored eight points along with six steals. West is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
La Junta got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Raquel Rodriguez out in front who scored 11 points along with two blocks. Marlie Gonzales was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six steals.
Florence's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-17. As for La Junta, their victory bumped their record up to 3-16.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Florence will take on St. Mary's at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for La Junta, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Colorado Springs Christian at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Colorado Springs Christian will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something La Junta surely won't give up without a fight.
