Softball Game Preview: Laton Mustangs vs. Alpaugh Buffalos

Laton is 9-1 against Alpaugh since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Laton will host Alpaugh at 4:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Alpaugh will be up against a hot Laton squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Laton was the clear victor by a 25-15 margin over Valley Christian Academy on Monday. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly ten runs.

Samantha Peralez was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Heffley, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Laton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .761. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .610 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Alpaugh hadn't done well against Kings Christian recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Alpaugh put the hurt on Kings Christian with a sharp 24-10 win. While the Buffalos didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Alpaugh pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.2 runs over those games. As for Laton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.
