The South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls will be playing at home against the Union Academy Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully South Stanly is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Union Academy in North Carolina (South Stanly is ranked 251st, while Union Academy is ranked 517th).
Last Tuesday, South Stanly came up short against North Stanly and fell 61-50.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Drew Gaddy, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cohen Whitley, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Union Academy fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They blew past Gray Stone Day, posting a 64-18 victory at home.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Union Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Abram Suttle, who scored 23 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Suttle has scored all season. Trevin Goodson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
South Stanly's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-4. As for Union Academy, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-15.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: South Stanly have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Union Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
South Stanly skirted past Union Academy 61-58 in their previous meeting back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Union Academy's Aidan Scruitsky, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will South Stanly still be able to contain Scruitsky? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
