The Carlsbad Lancers will take on the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Carlsbad proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by eight) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Torrey Pines 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lancers have posted since April 15th.
The team relied heavily on Chloe Hernandez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Autumn Muro, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Carlsbad kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for La Costa Canyon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They never let Mission Vista get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Tuesday. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with Mission Vista recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Addy Brown made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, La Costa Canyon let Mia Reynoso and Avery Walanski run wild. Reynoso went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Walanski went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Chloe Bellman was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
La Costa Canyon's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Carlsbad, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-13 record this season.
Carlsbad couldn't quite get it done against La Costa Canyon in their previous matchup two weeks ago as they fell 5-0. Will the Lancers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
